The Greymouth Swim Club has established three squads for differing levels of technique and ability. Each squad has their own sets of team and individual goals and training times, though club events throughout the year bring all squads together.
It is the expectation that all swimmers, regardless of squad, compete in meets throughout the year.
The Bronze Squad is the typical route for swimmers new to competitive swimming to join the club. These swimmers will train between two and three hours per week across two days and focus on stroke technique and endurance. Joining the club at this level is at the discretion of the coaches and typically requires strong Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke technique with rudimentary Butterfly.
The Silver Squad trains up to five hours per week across three days with the goal of advancing their stroke technique, starts, turns and endurance. Competing in meets further afield as families are able is typical of swimmers in this squad. Advancement to Silver from Bronze or externally is at the coach's discretion.
The Gold Squad trains up to ten hours per week with swimmer goals of competing in national meets or equivalent open water events. Advancement to the Gold from Silver or externally is at the coach's discretion in coordination with achievement or near achievement of Swimming NZ Division II qualifying times.
