Our regular training season runs from September to April and, typically, new swimmers will enter the club in the Bronze squad. At this level of competition, it is expected that your swimmer has completed at least Level 8 of swim school, or has the equivalent abilities. This means that freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke technique and timing are clearly evident. It also means tumble turns and basic butterfly are within your swimmer's capabilities with some minimal training. The Bronze squad trains two nights per week and competing in local swim meets is a requirement, as we are a competitive club.
The typical method of joining involves coming to our annually held Registration Night. In other circumstances, messaging the club could see an individual evaluation occur mid-season due to a family move to the area or some other extenuating situation.
Registration Night (annually in August)
This night is a chance for club coaches to evaluate your swimmer to determine their ability to train and compete at the minimum expectations of the Bronze squad in the club. This assessment is not meant to discourage any swimmers, but rather to provide feedback for those swimmers that are not invited to join the club. Swimmers in all squads (Gold, Silver and Bronze) are expected to be able to complete the training programs with coaching and stroke technique support. If your swimmer needs additional support, then the club may not be the right fit for your swimmer yet. We encourage all swimmers attending registration night to keep swimming. If your swimmer is not invited to join the club, we would love to see them back next year to see if their progress puts them in a position to train for competitive swimming with Greymouth Swim Club.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page linked at the bottom of the site for an announcement for the next registration night.
